The early versions of color were not very good and the color tv sets needed to watch in color were much more expensive than b&w. I remember very clearly the first time I saw a program in color on tv. I was just a kid. Our family went to vist some friends who were 'rich' compared to us. They turned on the tv and it seemed like the colors filled the room.There were controls on the tv that you could use to adjust the color but even so the quality was not good. Reception was still by rabbit ears or an outside antena. Unless you lived pretty close to the broadcast station the reception was fuzzy at best.There were just the 3 networks - abc, nbc and cbs. Usually only one would come in clear depending on how you adjusted the antena.

Yes, back when men were allowed to report the news unlike now where one has to look like a Playboy Playmate to get a job reporting all the killings going on.

I'm 72 and I don't remember when we first got a color tv but I do remember finally watching a movie that made a BIG difference in color. It was when Dorothy stepped out of her house into the colorful land of Oz. What an eye-opener!

Came home for Christmas leave from army basic training sick as a dog with pneumonia. Recovered on the couch watching my parent’s new color TV. First color show I saw was Bonanza back in Dec. 1972.

That whole thing about even BW TVs having better picture isn't wrong. I remember a commercial for Accent (the stuff you sprinkled on food in the mid 80s) where it started out in BW then went to color. I watched it on the BW TV in my grandmother's kitchen, and even the color perked up the BW view there.

We had the first color television in our neighborhood. Probably because my mom worked, too. Not usual for married women to work out of the home.

This was before every broadcast started with “breaking news”.

They just put a guy in a blue suit at a blue desk against a blue wall to show off color TV?

None of these compare to the Wizard of Oz where Dorothy opens the door to go into Munchkin Land.

We had the first color tv in our town. Our house slowly filled with “pop ins” about 30 minutes before Bonanza aired. When Little Joes green eyes lit up the room i thought all the females there were going to pass out. 😆

And that is why we are all in the future!

I used to watch black n white TV as kid in 1986 at relatives house. Then came an era of colourful 📺 and cables. At that time I didn't knew what is Zee TV n Sony TV. Now it's the fashion of RUclips.

Being 65 years old i do remember the change , if my memory is still good the first show i seen in color was Giiligans Island .

He had the single greatest opportunity to make a colour-related pun that anyone could ever have, _AND HE TOOK IT._ What a man.

I lived in Alabama in the late 60's. We did not get color broadcasts until 1969 or 1970. The networks made a big deal about everything being in color, but our local stations still broadcast in black and white.

My Mom remembers watching original Star Trek on her families black and white tv…… And was blown away when she saw an episode in color in a friends house!

We got the 1st color TV in our small town . Neighbors from far and wide came to see it.

I remember my dad telling us that his dad had saved up and upgraded their black and white tv for a color one right in time to watch the moon landing. Which was pretty much just a bunch of shades of black, grey, and white. 😂 He still chuckles about it when he tells the story

My family didn't have a colour TV until 1978...I still have the (working) 12" B&W TV that came as a 'free gift' for buying the colour one.

We watched in black and white for years. Love that men’s pants actually fit back then.
